In the first place, we have the inspired Word of God to read and follow. On top of that we have our built-in internal guide, the Holy Spirit, who will help us be smart and not stupid. Jesus promised:

The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. (John 14:26)
